“‘latex Wading birds have declined globally with pronounced declines in Western Europe. Multiple species are now IUCN Red listed, with northern lapwing (Vanellus vanellus) near threatened and declining. Declines have been attributed to poor breeding success due to high rates of predation on nests and chicks, by avian and mammalian predators. In Britain badgers (Meles meles) have increased their range and abundance, and can occur at high densities, with potential for acute local predation impacts on vulnerable wader populations. However, factors affecting rates of badger predations on wader nests remain unexplored. Using data from six years of lapwing nest monitoring at a key breeding site in North-East Scotland, we aimed to identify the factors associated with badger nest predation. The overall probability of badger predation was above 0.1 when mean daily temperature was below 4 °C in the 7 days before a nest’s completion, dropping close to zero when above 10 °C. Predation on lapwing clutches also increased with earthworm availability, and inter-annual effects were observed matching variations in temperature, whereby intense badger predation in 2021 coincided with unseasonably cold temperatures. This highlights the potential for weather forecasting to be used to deploy pre-emptive management strategies to mitigate badger predation impacts on lapwing nests.

Monitoring changes in vegetation distribution and extent is essential, especially in regions prone to climatic extremes. Traditional vegetation monitoring methods are labor-intensive, costly, and time-consuming. Remote sensing offers a powerful alternative, providing extensive spatial coverage and enabling efficient analysis. This study examines the impact of rainfall on vegetation growth in Latur, a drought-prone district in Maharashtra, India, utilizing Sentinel-2 satellite data and the Vegetation Condition Index (VCI) from 2017 to 2023. The 10-meter spatial resolution annual maps from ESRI, covering the years 2017 to 2023, were utilized to assess changes in land use and land cover (LULC). The LULC data were classified into seven classes: Water, Trees, Flooded Vegetation, Agricultural Land, Built Area, Bare Ground, and Rangeland. In 2017, Agricultural Land constituted 92% of the total area, decreasing to 90.28% by 2023, while the built-up area rose from 2.81% to 3.41%. Additionally, the annual mean VCI decreased from 36.28 in 2017 to 15.29 in 2023. The study assessed land use changes from 2017 to 2023, revealing a strong correlation between rainfall and vegetative growth. Spatial maps show significant seasonal variations in vegetation, emphasizing the need for continuous monitoring. This research highlights the effectiveness of Sentinel-2 data and Google Earth Engine for large-scale vegetation monitoring in drought-prone areas. Using the theories of General Strain and the Economics of Crime as intermediating mechanisms, I examine whether the 2008 economic recession had any effect on the individual feeling of safety, both short and long term. I use data gathered from 10 countries during 10 rounds of the European Social Survey, from 2002 to 2020/21 (N=139741). I apply Interrupted Time Series ordered logit regression models with the gologit2 user-written command for Stata. Results indicate that long-term, there was no adverse effect amongst all the participants in the utilized sample. Short-term however, by 2010, the feeling of safety diminished in those that felt the most secure just before the crisis. Dividing the sample into smaller groups, short-term negative effects were observed in four countries (Switzerland, Hungary, Norway, Portugal), and long-term negative effects in Britain and Ireland. In addition, I found short-term negative effects in groups of individuals who had outlier preferences and personal characteristics. Those were people that trusted the legal system and the police the least, their self- reported happiness level was low, had very conservative political views, had little education and reported having difficulties in coping with their current income.

“‘latex Atrial fibrillation (AF) is common and occurs in approximately 8% of adults over sixty-five years of age in the United States.[1](#ref-0001) Prevention of AF, with maintenance of healthy weight, treatment of sleep apnea, and regular exercise are key strategies. As prevention is often inadequate, the role of antiarrhythmic drugs (AADs) is paramount. The risk of adverse events during initiation is greatest in the first 24 hours, and is approximately 10-15%, but AADs can still be used safely.[2](#ref-0002) Herein, we describe the various categories in a practical guide to initiation in order to make clinicians more comfortable with starting and maintaining antiarrhythmic therapy in both the inpatient and outpatient setting. The mixed-methods study involved 150 international medical students across three major medical universities, utilizing stratified random sampling to ensure diverse representation. Quantitative methods assessed academic performance and student satisfaction before and after implementing the model, while qualitative interviews and focus groups explored students’ perceptions and experiences. Results indicate significant improvements in academic performance post-implementation, with average grades increasing in key subjects. Student satisfaction also improved, particularly in areas of content delivery and interaction. Regression analysis identified student engagement and satisfaction as strong predictors of academic success. Furthermore, the model positively impacted retention, evidenced by decreased dropout rates and increased completion rates. These findings suggest that the ”Three-Track Teaching Model” is an effective strategy for addressing the unique challenges faced by international students in online learning environments. The model’s emphasis on tailored content delivery, interactive engagement, and comprehensive support mechanisms significantly benefits academic achievement and student retention. The study highlights the potential for scaling and adapting the model across various educational contexts to enhance the effectiveness of online education.

Background: Irritable bowel syndrome is a widespread chronic functional gastrointestinal disorder that seriously impacts the quality of life of patients. An increasing amount of evidence indicates that low-grade inflammation and/or abnormal immune function may play a crucial role in the pathogenesis of IBS. Objective: Through bibliometric analysis, this study systematically combs through the main contributors, development trends, and research focuses in the field of immune factors in IBS, aiming to provide a reference for further research. Methods: The Web of Science Core Collection database was utilized to retrieve and collect academic articles related to immunology research in IBS from 2004 to 2024. Bibliometric analysis was conducted using tools such as VOSviewer and Citespace. A network diagram was created to visually represent different countries/regions, institutions, and authors, and to evaluate publication years, periodicals, references, and keywords. Results: Our research encompassed 2037 publications. The United States, China, and the United Kingdom were identified as major contributors. University College Cork was recognized as the institution with the greatest contribution. Pioneers in this field mainly include Cryan, John F.; Dinan, Timothy; Quigley, Eamonn M.M.; and Clarke, Gerard. The journals Neurogastroenterology and Motility and Gut were highly prominent. “Microbiota”, “inflammation”, and “probiotic” have become high-frequency keywords. Burst keywords such as ”microbiota transplantation”, ”dysbiosis”, ”HPA axis”, ”gut-brain axis”, and ”visceral hypersensitivity” represent the research frontiers in the field of IBS immunology. Conclusion: The bibliometric analysis provides fundamental knowledge, development trends, and new research hotspots in the field of IBS immunology. In the past 20 years, research on immunology in IBS has shifted from the traditional physiological and pathological mechanism to the intersection of microbiology and immunology, with attention focused on the role of targeted intestinal flora and mast cells in the treatment of IBS. Background: Ankylosing spondylitis (AS), as an inflammatory autoimmune disease, is the most typical clinical type of spondyloarthritis. Over the past decades, meta-analyses has made tremendous progress in AS. This study aimed to visualize the hotspots and trends using bibliometric analysis to provide a comprehensive overview of the meta-analysis research papers in the field of AS. Methods: A comprehensive search of publications on meta-analyses in AS from 2007 to 2024 was conducted using the Web of Science Core Collection database. Bibliometric analysis was performed using bibliometrix package, VOSviewer and CiteSpace software. Results: Following screening, a total of 507 articles were downloaded, and the number of relevant articles published showed an increasing trend year by year. China, USA and the England were the most productive countries. Annals of the Rheumatic Diseases was the most productive journal (54, 10.65%), while Pan, Faming was the most productive author (23, 4.54%), and Anhui Medical University (45, 8.88%) was the most productive institution. The high-frequency keywords were mainly clustered into five themes, including complications, biologics, physiotherapy exercises, gut microbiota, and methods of analysis. Conclusion: The rapid increase in the number of meta-analyses of AS in recent years highlights the importance of this research field. Research in the field was focused on aspects like risk factor, network meta-analysis and quality-of-life. Such insights are valuable for understanding of AS-related research progress, enabling the concern for both essential medical therapy and the quality of life of patients for researchers and clinicians.

IntroductionThe transgender and gender diverse population continues to rise as society shifts towards increased awareness and acceptance, with an estimated 2.6 million adults identifying as transgender in the United States [1]. Population growth and improved financial accessibility to healthcare has led to an increase in chest masculinization surgery, or gender-affirming mastectomy (GAM) [2]. GAM differs from risk-reduction, or prophylactic, mastectomy in that more breast tissue is left in-situ to create a natural-appearing chest contour. This is compared to prophylactic mastectomy which removes nearly all breast tissue for maximum oncologic risk reduction. This difference complicates breast cancer risk assessment in the post-GAM population [2]. Breast cancer risk in cisgender women is well-defined at 1 in 8 or 12.5% risk over a lifetime, however this is less clear in transgender patients due to confounding factors such as testosterone therapy or previous oophorectomy [3]. It has been theorized that after GAM transmale patients are at lower risk of breast cancer than cisgender women, yet higher risk than cisgender men [2-4]. No standardized preoperative screening guidelines prior to GAM currently exist, however strong family history and need for breast imaging should be assessed in this setting. Risk factors such as inherited genetic mutations have specific implications for this population as they are less likely to undergo cancer screening or participate in long-term follow up [4]. Approximately 5-10% of breast cancers are thought to be associated with inherited genetic mutations, BRCA being most common [5]. Risk reducing mastectomy is often offered to these patients, decreasing breast cancer risk by 90-95%[4,5]. Here we present a transgender male patient with the BRCA1 mutation. Rather than standard GAM, he underwent prophylactic bilateral mastectomy followed by chest masculinization with liposuction and free nipple grafts, as well as concurrent oophorectomy for gynecologic risk reduction. Here we highlight the nuanced problem that post-GAM patients have a higher, more variable risk of breast cancer compared to cisgender men and likely postmastectomy cisgender women. We demonstrate that appropriate risk reduction and desired cosmetic outcome can be achieved concurrently. The following case in presented accordance with the CARE reporting checklist.Case Presentation The patient is a 32-year-old transgender male who presented for surgical consultation regarding prophylactic mastectomy in the setting of a BRCA1 mutation. At the time of consultation, he had been on testosterone therapy for 7 years. Genetic testing was ordered by his endocrinologist due to a strong family history of breast, ovarian, and prostate cancers. He was referred to our high-risk screening program, breast surgical oncology, and gynecology to discuss risk reduction surgery. He had no previous breast imaging and was recommended to undergo breast MRI. This showed a 5.4 cm area of nonmass enhancement in the right breast for which biopsy was recommended, however at the time of biopsy the abnormality was no longer visualized and no tissue sample was obtained. After multidisciplinary discussion, he underwent laparoscopic hysterectomy and bilateral salpingo-oophorectomy followed by bilateral risk-reduction mastectomies. The plastic surgery team worked in conjunction with the oncological breast surgery team for markings. The double incision mastectomy approach was designed to place the scar slightly below the pectoralis major muscle. The nipples were thinned out as an oval full thickness skin graft placed on the closed chest. The nipple grafts were positioned along the lateral border of the pectoralis major muscle between the 4th and 5th ribs [6]. Suction assisted lipectomy was performed laterally and medially to optimize contour. Final pathology was without abnormality. Postoperatively he was satisfied with the aesthetic outcome (Figure 1) and plans to undergo annual chest wall exams by his primary care physician.Discussion Here we describe a transgender male patient found to have the BRCA1 mutation on preoperative evaluation for GAM. He was found to have a strong family history including breast, ovarian, and prostate cancers which prompted genetic testing. He was evaluated in a multidisciplinary setting, and ultimately underwent risk-reduction mastectomy and oophorectomy at the time of chest masculinization surgery. There has yet to be established guidelines for breast cancer screening in transgender men undergoing GAM. In general, transgender patients face many barriers in healthcare including stigmatization, psychosocial trauma associated with undergoing procedures that do not align with their gender identity, and lack of insurance coverage of procedures [7]. Disparity in healthcare for this population is especially prevalent in preventative care. When compared to cisgender individuals, transgender patients are less likely to be offered recommended cancer screening, which is reflected by suboptimal cancer outcomes in this population [1,7]. A recent single arm pilot trial published by C.S Cortina et. al highlights implications of patient education regarding individualized breast cancer risk in the preoperative setting can impact one’s decision to undergo risk reduction mastectomy as a part of gender-affirming top surgery [1]. Though rare, development of breast cancer after GAM has been described in multiple case series [7]. It is important to emphasize that GAM should not be considered equivalent to oncologic or prophylactic mastectomy due to the amount of breast tissue left behind, as the residual breast tissue imparts a theoretical future risk of breast cancer. In terms of long-term breast cancer screening, similar to postmastectomy cisgender females, physical exam is the recommended screening modality for post-GAM patients.Conclusion As the transgender population continues to grow, the role of breast cancer risk assessment prior to GAM is of particular importance. This case demonstrates the clinical utility for formalized, individualized preoperative screening to better identify patients who would benefit from oncologic risk-reduction at the time of gender-affirming chest masculinization. As exemplified here, formal guidelines for breast cancer risk assessment in patients pursuing GAM could mitigate lifetime risk of breast cancer development in the transgender and gender diverse population. A limitation of this case report includes discussion about a relatively small patient population, however with profound population growth the question of breast cancer risk in this group has become relevant in genetics, surgical oncology, and plastics. Key Clinical Message:In cases of pituitary lesions with elevated TSH, a comprehensive diagnostic approach that includes biochemical, clinical, and radiological assessment is essential. Not all pituitary masses are adenomas. Pituitary hyperplasia secondary to primary hypothyroidism can mimic adenomas, particularly prolactinomas, due to associated hyperprolactinemia. Thyroxine replacement therapy often reduces pituitary hyperplasia, making hormonal profiling essential to avoid unnecessary surgical interventions. Patient compliance with hormone therapy is also a key factor, as non-compliance can lead to persistent symptoms and impact outcomes. Early specialist involvement and a multidisciplinary approach are beneficial in these complex cases to ensure accurate diagnosis and timely intervention.Introduction :The pituitary gland, often called the ”master gland” of the body, regulates numerous essential functions by releasing various hormones. Structurally, the gland is divided into an anterior and a posterior lobe. The anterior lobe produces several vital hormones, including human growth hormone (HGH or GH), thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH), adrenocorticotropic hormone (ACTH), follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH), luteinizing hormone (LH), and prolactin. The posterior lobe produces oxytocin and antidiuretic hormone (ADH). The hypothalamus controls all these hormones, which regulate their release through specific signaling chemicals.Pituitary adenomas, or benign tumors of the pituitary gland, can be classified by size—macroadenomas are more significant than 10 mm, while microadenomas are smaller. They are also categorized as either secreting or non-secreting, depending on whether they actively release hormones. The most common secreting adenoma is prolactinoma, which overproduces prolactin (1). Pituitary hyperplasia, on the other hand, involves the overgrowth of pituitary cells and may affect either specific hormone-producing cells or the entire gland. Both adenomas and hyperplasia can present as a pituitary mass on imaging, which can complicate diagnosis.In primary hypothyroidism, inadequate thyroid hormone production can result in elevated TSH levels and pituitary hyperplasia due to loss of negative feedback in the hypothalamic-pituitary-thyroid axis. Studies indicate that 25-81% of hypothyroid patients present with pituitary hyperplasia (2). Additionally, thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH)-secreting adenomas, or TSHomas, are rare, accounting for only 0.5% to 3% of all pituitary tumors (3). These tumors are typically characterized by elevated levels of free thyroid hormones (FT4 and FT3) in the presence of non-suppressed TSH, often presenting clinically with symptoms of hyperthyroidism (4). Differentiating between TSHomas, thyroid hormone resistance, and other causes of elevated TSH can be challenging.This case series presents three patients with elevated TSH and pituitary lesions, each with a unique clinical outcome and treatment pathway. Although their initial symptoms were similar varying diagnoses led to distinct management strategies. This series highlights the diverse presentations of pituitary lesions with elevated TSH and underscores the importance of systematic evaluation to avoid misdiagnosis and unnecessary surgical interventions.

Genetic diversity is vital for species’ adaptation to environmental changes, including disease pressures. Parasites exert strong selective forces, often linking reduced genetic diversity with increased infection susceptibility. However, the impact of genetic diversity at both functional and neutral loci on infection patterns in natural populations remains unclear. This meta-analysis examines the relationship between genetic diversity and protozoan infections across multiple avian species, focusing on genetic marker type (functional vs. neutral), parasite genus, and host migratory behaviour. Data from 29 studies covering 24 bird species and 72 effect sizes—derived from a variety of genetic markers and infection metrics (prevalence and intensity)—were synthesized. Contrary to expectations, no significant relationship was found between individual genetic diversity and infection prevalence or intensity, regardless of marker type. Meta-regression analyses revealed that neither parasite genus nor migratory behaviour altered the association between genetic diversity and infection measures. Our findings do not support the notion that host genetic diversity shapes infection patterns within populations. However, broad genetic diversity measures may obscure finer genetic effects from specific alleles (e.g., MHC variants), and reliance on parasite genetic material alone may underrepresent infection status. Future studies should integrate broad genetic diversity measures with allele-specific analyses and include antibody testing to better assess infection history, offering a fuller view of host-parasite co-evolution in natural ecosystems.

The construction of ski runs with artificial snowmaking in mountain areas changes natural water circulation and leads to activation of erosion and accumulation processes. To recognise this relationship, we selected a small catchment in the Gubałowskie Foothills, the Inner Carpathians, where 17% of the area is covered by the ski runs. The main purpose of our study was to: (i) present morphology and morphometrics of channels that drain and do not drain ski runs; (ii) recognise differences in statistical relationships between channel morphometrics in both types of channels; and (iii) estimate morphometric changes due to erosion and accumulation processes in selected channels. To identify these changes, we conducted geomorphological mapping of step pool channels, statistical analyses, DEM (Digital Elevation Model), and DOD (DEM of Difference) analyses (based on point clouds from 2016 and 2023). In order to identify the effect of ski run construction on channel morphology, we divided channels into two groups: 1) stream channels that do not drain ski runs, and 2) stream channels that drain ski runs. Results showed that the routing of drainage from the ski runs to the channels leads to a significant intensification of erosion in the channels with the maximum deepening, up to 2.6 m. It also changes the dominant geomorphological processes in the channels. Fluvial processes are beginning to dominate slope processes. The described changes occurred already 8 years after the opening of the ski station and reveal the scale of land degradation connected to artificial snowmaking in ski resorts.

Over the past decade, significant advancements in computer vision have been made, primarily driven by deep learning-based algorithms for object detection. However, these models often require large amounts of labeled data, leading to performance degradation when applied to tasks with limited datasets, particularly in scenarios involving moving objects. For instance, real-time detection and detection of humans in agricultural settings pose challenges that demand sophisticated vision algorithms. To address this issue, we propose SB-YOLO-V8, an optimized YOLO-based Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) designed specifically for real-time human detection in citrus farms. The proposed model is trained using images and videos of human workers captured by autonomous farm equipment. The preprocessing stage involves employing data augmentation techniques and Synthetic Minority Over-sampling Technique (SMOTE) to enhance object detection performance and prevent overfitting. SB-YOLO-V8 incorporates Binary ALO optimization for improved feature extraction, enabling high-quality data extraction for classification purposes. The architecture comprises both the YOLO-based CNN and an aggregator module for classification and feedback, respectively. Evaluation metrics, including frame per second (FPS), model performance, and efficiency, demonstrate the proposed model outperforms variances of YOLO such as YOLO-V8, YOLO-V7, YOLO-V6, YOLO-V4 and YOLO-V3 with an average FPS of 13.63 and a precision of 91%. In effect, the proposed SB-YOLO-V8 presents an efficient solution for real time human detection in challenging visual scenarios.

The novelty of this research is surveying the effects of CuO nanoparticles in jeffery-hamel flow with the high levelized of magnetic field in converging and diverging channels using quasi-linearization method (QLM) and also the meshless method which based on radial basis functions. In order to evaluate the convergence analysis of the method, error estimations are made by a residual function denoted. Also, the ability of the present method is shown by comparing it with the numerical method to solve this problem, which is in good agreement. Effects of multivariable parameters is analyzed on magnetic field, nanoparticles volume fraction and angle of converging and diverging channels. The obtained results show that at angles or Reynolds number of greater in divergent channels, backflow occurs so the high levelized of magnetic field is eliminated this phenomenon. Increasing viscous force is due to velocity reduction close to the walls of converging and diverging channels.
