Prosthetic valve endocarditis with mechanical complications causing pulmonary edema is fatal, therefore it needs to be diagnosed early and should be treated surgically in emergency setting. Transesophageal echocardiogram is crucial for recognizing the mechanical complications, which can be encountered on daily practice, but the coexistence of complications occurring on different mechanism is rather uncommon. Herein, we report a 21-year-old gentleman presenting with acute heart failure, whose imaging tests showed a combination of dehiscence of mechanical aortic valve prosthesis, aortic dissection, pseudoaneurysm and hematoma causing right ventricular collapse.

Density dependence is a fundamental ecological process. Patterns of animal habitat selection and social behaviour are often density-dependent and density-dependent traits should affect reproduction and survival, and subsequently affect fitness and population dynamics. The Ideal Free Distribution and Optimal Foraging Theory present distinct predictions about how the effect of habitat selection on fitness differs across a population density gradient. Using a social ungulate (Rangifer tarandus) as a model system, we test competing hypotheses about how (co)variance in habitat specialization, social behaviour, and fitness vary across a population density gradient. Within a behavioural reaction norm framework, we estimated repeatability, phenotypic plasticity, and phenotypic covariance among social behaviours and habitat selection to demonstrate the adaptive value of these phenotypes across a population density gradient. In support of Optimal Foraging Theory, but not the Ideal Free Distribution, we found that at high density habitat specialists had higher fitness than generalists, but were also less social than habitat generalists, suggesting the possibility that specialists were inhibited from being social. Our findings illustrate that social strength and habitat specialization varied consistently among individuals across a density gradient, but that habitat specialists maximized fitness at high density. Taken together, our study provides preliminary support for Optimal Foraging Theory as the driving mechanism for density-dependent habitat specialization.

Inducible defenses of prey are evolved under diverse and variable predation risks. However, during the co-evolution of prey and multiple predators, the responses of prey to antagonistic predation risks, which may put the prey into a dilemma of responding to predators, remain unclear. Based on antagonistic predation pressure from an invertebrate (Chaoborus larvae) and a vertebrate (Rhodeus ocellatus) predator, we studied the responses of multiple traits and transcriptomes of the freshwater crustacean Ceriodaphnia cornuta under multiple predation risks. Chaoborus predation risk altered the expression of genes encoding cuticle proteins and modulated the biosynthesis of steroid hormones, cutin, suberine, and wax, leading to the development of horns and increase in size at the late developmental stage. Meanwhile, fish predation risk primarily triggered genes encoding ribosomes and those involved in unsaturated fatty acid biosynthesis and cysteine and methionine metabolism, resulting in smaller individual size and earlier reproduction. Inducible responses of both transcriptome and individual traits revealed that predator-dependent unique responses were dominant and the dilemma of antagonistic responses was relatively limited. However, the unique individual traits in response to invertebrate predation could be significantly impaired by vertebrate predation risk, even though the unique responses to different predators were extremely weakly correlated and could be elicited simultaneously. These results indicate that diverse predator-dependent unique responses are favored by Ceriodaphnia during its co-evolution with multiple predators. Nonetheless, Ceriodaphnia is not a generalist that can fully adopt all predator-dependent unique responses simultaneously under multiple predation risks.

In recent years, e-commerce system has become an indispensable part of people’s daily life. In this way, the problems in the operation and management of this system are gradually exposed. This paper applies evolutionary game theory to explore evolution and optimal strategy for the harmonious development of the three parts, consumers, expressmen and e-commerce platforms. An three-part evolutionary game mode is presented among them, which takes into account the financial penalties and the degree of supervision of e-commerce platform. Then, the evolutionary stability strategies are analyzed by the differential equation theory and Liapunov stability analysis. Furthermore, numerical simulation is used to analyze the influence of several factors on evolution results. Research concludes optimal evolutionary strategy for this system: the consumer chooses the non-complaint strategy, the expressman chooses seriousness strategy, and the e-commerce platform chooses strict-management strategy. This paper can provide methods and strategies for the long-term stable evolution of similar system like e-commerce system.

In this paper, we solve a common problem of split null inclusion problem, variational inequality and hierarchical fixed point problem for nonexpansive and quasi-nonexpansive mappings using hybrid projective method. Under suitable conditions in a real Hilbert space, strong convergent theorems are proved. Further, we give an example for supporting our main result in infinitely dimensional spaces and show the efficiency of the algorithm by applying to solve the signal recovery problem.

The ‘design-build-test-learn’ (DBTL) cycle has been adopted in rational high-throughput screening for obtaining high-yield industrial strains. However, the mismatch between build and test slows the DBTL cycle due to the lack of high-throughput analytical technologies. In this study, a highly-efficient, accurate, and non-invasive detection method of gentamicin (GM) was developed, which can provide timely feedback for the high-throughput screening of high-yield strains. Firstly, a self-made tool was established to obtain datasets in 24-well ​based on the coloring of cells. Subsequently, the random forest (RF) algorithm was found to have the highest prediction accuracy with 98.5% for the training and 91.3% for verification. Finally, a stable genetic high-yield strain (998U/mL) was successfully screened out in 3005 mutants, which was verified to improve the titer by 72.7% in a 5 L bioreactor. Moreover, the verified new datasets were updated to the model database in order to improve learning ability of DBTL cycle.

A young man, a recent coronavirus patient, was readmitted with hypoesthesia and dysarthria following a rapid deterioration of respiratory symptoms. The brain and lung CT scans revealed ischemia and cavitary lung lesions. Clinical suspicion for aspergillus leads to prompt treatment, confirmed by biopsy. A 64-year-old female had undergone CABG 10 years earlier. Follow-up CT gram showed the giant coronary artery aneurysm (CAA) located on the proximal left circumflex artery (CX). Wild boars (Sus scrofa) are extremely common in southern of China, but little study has reported dietary habits of wild boars using high-throughput sequencing technology. Due to the difficulty in obtaining samples of the stomach contents of wild boars, there are few reports on the diet of wild boars especially in karst areas. In our study, the stomach contents of 14 south China wild boars were analyzed by 16S rRNA high-throughput sequencing technology. The results showed that there were 153 genera, 93 families, and 48 orders, of which 78% were plants. Main plants food component of wild boar were Cissus, Dioscorea, Quercus, Actinidia and Houttuynia. The remaining 21% was animal food sources. It is noteworthy that Elaphodus cephalophus were detected in most of stomach samples, accounted for a large part of animal food sources. Predation of Elaphodus cephalophus by wild boars could cause a series of unforeseen problems, especially if this ongoing issue continues in the future. Our study revealed the dietary preference of wild boars under the special forest vegetation conditions in the mountainous area of southwest China, and the relationship between the diet habits of wild boars and their habitats from the perspective of resource utilization, thus providing a key scientific basis for the prevention and control of wild boars and resource protection.

Background. Osteonecrosis (ON) is a long-known complication of acute leukemia (AL) management affecting 1 to 10% of young patients, leading to long-term morbidity. Widespread access to Magnetic Resonance Imagery (MRI) over the past ten years has allowed earlier detection and more accurate assessment. This study investigated clinical and radiological features of ON, among the large French cohort L.E.A (Leucémie Enfant Adolescent) Procedure. Patients with ON were retrospectively enrolled and risk factors for the onset, the multifocal involvement and severe damage were analyzed. Quality of life (QoL) was also evaluated. A sub-study described radiological features. Results. 129/4973 patients developed ON (2.5%) and were preferentially aged over 10 years at time of AL diagnosis (OR 22.46, p <10-6). Females were preferentially affected (OR 1.8, p=0.002) like patients treated for relapse (OR 1.81, p=0.041). Patients presenting ON suffered more frequently from other sequelae (p<10-6). Most of the necrosis were involving weight-bearing joints and multiple joints in 69% of cases. MRI of 39 patients with ON were double blinded reviewed. Overall, 14/39 suffered from severe impairment, preferentially on hips. QoL of adolescents and adults was poor and permanently affected once ON occurred. Conclusions. Age of over 10 years at diagnosis of AL, relapse and female sex were at risk of developing ON involving preferentially multiple joints. One third was severe and lasting poor QoL impacting several domains was found. Future studies should include prospective data on management and biological genetic features to build a targeted screening program to detect and manage ON earlier.

Objective: To study the surgical treatment’s immediate and long-term results of patients with the coronary and carotid arteries’ combined atherosclerotic lesions when choosing treatment tactics according to the developed a differentiated approach’s algorithm. Methods: During the period from 01.07.2014 – 01.01.2021, 243 patients with the coronary and carotid arteries’ combined atherosclerotic lesions were included in the study. Patients underwent revascularization operations on the previously developed algorithm’s basis for choosing the surgical intervention’s volume and stage. 104 patients (42.8%) underwent simultaneous combined coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG) and carotid endarterectomy (CEA), 139 (57.2%) patients received phased revascularization, of which 102 (73.4%) patients underwent CABG, 37 (26.6%) underwent CEA in the first stage. The endpoints both when comparing immediate and long-term results were: death from all causes, acute cerebrovascular accident (ACVA), transient ischemic attack (TIA), acute myocardial infarction (MI), as well as a combined endpoint that includes all of these events. Average follow-up time: 41.1±21.8 months. Results: In the early postoperative period, there weren’t fatal cases in any groups. At the hospital stage, 5 (2.1%) ACVA cases, 1 (0.4%) TIA case and 3 (1.2%) acute MI cases were recorded. Long-term results were evaluated in 225 patients (92.3%). The overall survival rate was 93.8%. During the follow-up, 5 (2.4%) MI cases, 11 (4.9%) ACVA cases , 1 (1.0%) TIA case were recorded. There weren’t identified significant differences between the groups stage and combined interventions for any endpoints as when comparing the immediate outcomes (acute IM p=0,680, TIA – p=0,500, ACVA – p=0,567, combined indicator, p=0,940) and remote results (mortality – 0,860, acute MI – p=0,906, TIA – p=0,528, ACVA – p=0,378, combined indicator, p=0,669). Conclusion: The treatment’s results of patients with the coronary and brachycephalic arteries’ combined atherosclerosis on the developed algorithm’s basis, allows you to safely perform correction in both arterial basins and achieve satisfactory results in the hospital and long-term period.

A 23-31 GHz three-stage low noise amplifier (LNA) based on a 100 nm Gallium Nitride (GaN) on Si technology is presented with a total circuit size of 2.0×1.4 mm2. To perform excellent noise figure (NF) and gain, a special inductive dual-source feedback network is utilized, which is contribute to noise matching and input conjugate matching by resonating with the equivalent gate-source capacitance of the transistor. The T-type network and reactive/resistive network are carefully employed for broadband matching circuits to extend the bandwidth. Meanwhile, a lossy RLC feedback network of the output stage can further obtain a wider frequency band and improve the stability though miller approximation analysis of the input quality factor and gain of closed-loop system. In this letter, the LNA achieves a noise figure of 1.9-2.5 dB, a small signal gain of 24-27 dB and the 1-dB compression point output power (OP1dB) of 16 dBm across the band.

Isoflavones are secondary metabolites present in seeds of soybean [ Glycine max (L.) Merr.] which have been recognized their benefit to human health. In this study, QTL mapping for soybean isoflavone gylcones including daidzin, glycitin and genistin and total isoflavones content was performed in population of 178 F2:6 recombinant inbred lines (RILs) which was generated from cross between varieties Jinong17 and Jinong18. A genetic linkage map covering 1248 cM was constructed using the simple sequence repeat (SSR) molecular markers. The results revealed 22 isoflavone- related QTLs, 5 for daidzin, 7 for genistin, 6 for glycitin, and 4 for total isoflavone content. Seven of these represent new QTLs. Twenty candidate genes were identified, including eight laccases with presumed role in lignin biosynthesis, and the transcriptional regulator BANYULS and all three components of the MYB-bHLH-WD40 (MBW) complex that regulate its expression. These findings suggest that alterations in lignin and proanthocyanidin metabolism influence isoflavone accumulation in seeds. These leads might be helpful in the efforts to breed new soybean varieties with improved isoflavone composition and content.

De novo mutations (DNMs) play an important role in severe genetic disorders that reduce fitness. To better understand the role of DNMs in disease, it is important to determine the parent-of-origin and timing of the mutational events that give rise to the mutations, especially in sex-specific developmental disorders such as male infertility. However, currently available short-read sequencing approaches are not ideally suited for phasing as this requires long continuous DNA strands that span both the DNM and one or more informative SNPs. To overcome these challenges, we optimised and implemented a multiplexed long-read sequencing approach using the Oxford Nanopore technologies MinION platform. We specifically focused on improving target amplification, integrating long-read sequenced data with high-quality short-read sequence data, and developing an anchored phasing computational method. This approach was able to handle the inherent phasing challenges that arise from long-range target amplification and the normal accumulation of sequencing error associated with long-read sequencing. In total, 77 out of 109 DNMs (71%) were successfully phased and parent-of-origin identified. The majority of phased DNMs were prezygotic (90%), the accuracy of which is highlighted by the average mutant allele frequency of 49.6% and a standard error margin of 0.84%. This study demonstrates the benefits of using an integrated short-read and long-read sequencing approach for large-scale DNM phasing.

We provide a highly accurate and fast solver to get an approximate solution of (degenerate) parabolic partial differential equations (PDEs) with variable, but factorising coefficients over a rectangular domain in three space dimensions subject to an arbitrary combination of different boundary conditions. The solver is based on a finite difference discretisation of 4-th order in space and a ADI time marching scheme supplemented with a Richardson extrapolation and is easy to implement. The proposed solver is applied to different derivative pricing problems appearing in continuous time finance such as pricing basket and exotic options in different stochastic volatility models. In particular, we are able to price lookback options in the Double Heston model or European and barrier options in the Heston model with stochastic correlation to high accuracy within a fraction of a second. This extends and unifies recent, tailor made solutions to these pricing problems in the scientific literature.

The spatial distribution of water is mainly controlled by the vegetation canopy, which determines the partitioning of rainfall into interception, throughfall (TF), and stemflow. Spatiotemporal patterns of TF have been studied in different ecosystems, though the majority of studies focused on forests. Few reports on small-scale TF variability and drivers in semi-arid desert steppes have been published. Herein, we investigated the variability of TF of two morphologically distinct artificial revegetation shrubs ( Caragana liouana and Salix psammophila) within a semi-arid desert steppe, synthesized the data, and analyzed the characteristics of TF distribution and drivers at the rainfall event scales. We found that: (1) morphological differences were sufficient to generate significant (P < 0.05) differences in TF between the two shrub species; (2) Wind speed had a greater effect on the distribution of TF beneath the shrub structure for C. liouana, while the distribution of TF beneath the shrub structure for S. psammophila was more affected by wind direction; and (3) canopy architecture, in particular the stem angle and canopy base area, which affected the openness of the canopy and played an important role in the distribution of TF in the two shrubs. For C. liouana, larger shrubs had higher TF, while for S. psammophila, smaller shrubs had higher TF. The results reveal the key factors driving water use under rainfall during revegetation and the TF utilization mechanism in semi-arid areas, and highlight the complementary effect of different species on ecosystem hydrological functions.

The rapid development of free and open access hydrological models and coupling frameworks tools continue to present more opportunities for coupled model development for improved assessment of floodplain hydrology. In this study, we set up a The Upper Zambezi Hydrological model and a fully spatially hydrological-hydrodynamic coupled model for the Barotse Floodplain using GLOFRIM (GLObally applicable computational FRamework for Integrated hydrological–hydrodynamic Modelling). The hydrological and hydrodynamic models used are WFLOW and LISFLOOD-FP respectively. The simulated flows generated by wflow model for the upstream gauge stations before the Barotse Floodplain, were quite similar and closely matched the observed flow as indicated by the evaluation statistics; Chavuma, nse=0.738; kge = 0.738; pbias = 2.561 and RSR = 0.511; Watopa, nse=0.684; kge = 0.816; pbias = 10.577 and RSR = 0.557; Lukulu, nse=0.736; kge = 0.795; pbias = 10.437 and RSR = 0.509. However, even though wflow hydrological model was able to simulate the upstream hydrology very well, the results at the floodplain outlet gauge stations did not quite match the observed monthly flows at Senanga gauge station as indicated by the evaluation statistics: nse=0.132; kge = 0.509; pbias = 37.740 and RSR = 0.9233. This is mainly because the representation of both floodplain channels hydrodynamics and vertical hydrological processes are necessary to correctly capture floodplain dynamics. Thus, the need for an approach that saves as a basis for developing a fully spatially distributed coupled hydrodynamic and hydraulic models’ assessments for groundwater dependent tropical floodplains such as the Barotse floodplain, in closing the gap between hydrology and hydrodynamics in floodplains assessments. A fully model coupling has the potential of been used in implementing adaptive wetland management strategies for water resources allocation, environmental flow (eflows), flood control, land use and climate change impact assessments.

In addition to the hydromorphological pressure onto the ecological conditions of free flowing river courses, increasing water temperature is affecting the water bodies, particularly by changing freshwater community compositions. The low discharge of numerous European rivers in the dry and hot hydrological year 2022 prove this relevance. Therefore, ecological assessment tools such as habitat modeling should take into account these factors to assess the quantity and quality of habitats. In this paper, the habitat modeling tool “Transient River Habitat Modeling for Macrozoobenthos” (TRiMM), was improved by incorporating a fuzzy logic approach and adding water temperature to the set of parameters determining habitat suitability for macrozoobenthos. Habitat relevant parameters, including hydromorphological factors (depth, velocity, mineral, and organic substrate) and water quality factor (temperature), are combined in the habitat model so that it can broaden river physical conditions and their interactions with biological indicators. Habitat modeling employed the mentioned parameters to simulate suitability for the macrozoobenthos in a small river in central Saxony, Germany. Due to its deteriorated condition, this river was selected as a representative for thousands of kilometers of small rivers across the region, which have been restored. The model simulated the status quo of river conditions from spring to summer for three macrozoobenthos species (A. fluviatilis, E. danica, and G. fossarum). The results showed that the natural flow resulted in dynamic habitat suitability both spatially and temporally, which differs for each species. Remarkably, the five-parameter model (depth, velocity, temperature, mineral, and organic substrate) generally performed better compared to a similar model without temperature.
