Nelson is a Ph.D. candidate at the Centre for Environmental Management and Green Energy at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, funded by the Homegrown Clean Energy (HCE) Solutions Intra-Africa Mobility Scholarship.
In his role as a Forest Officer at the Ministry of Water and Environment/National REDD+ Secretariat, Nelson’s responsibilities included engaging REDD+ stakeholders, supporting the development of Subnational REDD+ idea notes, assessing REDD+ project proposals, and monitoring and reporting on REDD+ safeguards. He played a key role in supporting Uganda’s REDD+ registration and compliance with ART-TREES, with a focus on monitoring and reporting on program safeguards. In 2023, Nelson co-coordinated the mobilization and solicitation of stakeholder input into Uganda’s International Carbon Market Regulations and Implementation Guidelines. He also contributed to the formulation and review of Uganda’s forest sector policies, guidelines, and standards, as well as supported forest landscape restoration planning and monitoring.
