professor at Volga Region State University
Nugayev Rinat Magdievich (born on May 30, 1953), doctor of philosophy, full professor. A specialist in history & philosophy of physics, philosophy and sociology of science, epistemology, relativistic astrophysics (black holes’ physics). On graduating (1970) Kazan gymnasium no 18 (10-year basic English course +3-year course of English literature) Nugayev joined the KSU (Kazan State University) physics department. His major university disciplines were Riemannian geometry and general relativity. On graduating the KSU with MA in physics Nugayev studied relativistic astrophysics at Moscow Institute of Space Research of Russian Academy of Science (Ya. B. Zel’dovich & I.D. Novikov research group; 1975-76). After graduating from Kazan and Moscow Universities he gets his PhD in philosophy of physics at Lomonosov Moscow State University. He received his Dr .Sci. (philosophy) degree from the RAS (Russian Academy of Science) Institute of Philosophy, Moscow (1991).The theme of his ‘doktorskaya’ dissertation was “Reconstruction of Mature Theory Change”. He published 12 monographs (3 in English by ‘Peter Lang’, ‘Bentham Science Publishers’ and ‘Minkowski Institute Press’). More than 50 Nugayev’s papers are published in the journals indexed by SCOPUS and WoS:

It is contended that one of the promising directions for brooding over the problem of incommensurability of paradigms, coined by T. Kuhn and P. Feyerabend, can be associated with the trend of advancement of neo-Kantian epistemology, embodied by the writings of Ernst Cassirer. According to Cassirer, the statements fixing connections and relationships between mathematical ideal constructs form a 'neutral language' that can serve as a firm ground for comparing the 'old' and 'new' paradigms. A case study of the genesis and functioning of a neutral mathematical language related to the Maxwellian celebrated synthesis of optics and electromagnetism is provided. It is elicited that its basis is constituted by the mathematical language of continuum mechanics. The main function of the neutral language was to project the consequences of all the unified theories onto the mathematical model, 'rewrite' all known laws in this mathematical language, compare their conclusions with each other to eliminate contradictions and generalize the stuff in a self-consistent system of equations.
