Entrepreneurial Leadership (EL) is a flourishing area of study, but different disciplinary traditions have led to fragmentation and conceptual confusion. The purpose of this field-wide systematic review is to map the distinct traditions in EL research and their underlining assumptions, contributions and research potential to provide conceptual clarity and an agenda for future research. Based on an inductive approach to categorization, we analyze 96 journal articles (1991-2023) to present a framework that introduces four dominant perspectives on EL: disciplinary, attributes, contextual and process. These multiple perspectives constrain theory building, though each perspective offers future research opportunities and insights for practice.
