Background: caesarean delivery is a surgical procedure that involves the incision of the walls of the mother’s abdomen and uterus for the delivery of the fetus. It is essential and life-saving surgery which is critical to save lives in situations where vaginal deliveries would pose risks. However, medically unindicated caesarean delivery can put the mother and the newborn at risk, sill there was very limited information about the prevalence of cesarean delivery and factors influencing it in the setting. Purpose: This study aimed to assess the prevalence of cesarean delivery and associated factors among mothers who gave birth at public hospitals, Jigjiga town, Somali regional state, Ethiopia. Methods: A hospital-based cross-sectional study was conducted at public hospitals in Jigjiga town. A systematic random sampling technique was used. Data was collected through a face-to-face interview, using a pre-tested and structured questionnaire. Descriptive statistics were computed. Logistic regression was employed. Odds ratio and the corresponding 95% confidence interval were used. Results: The prevalence of cesarean delivery in this study is 27.4% (95% CI 23.3-31.8%). Monthly income in ETB = 3,000-6,000 [AOR = 3.91 (95% CI: 1.50-10.17)], a history of previous cesarean delivery [AOR = 15.86 (95% CI: 8.01-31.40)], and inadequate counseling pregnant-mother [AOR = 2.87 (95% CI: 1.46-5.68)] were factors significantly associated. Conclusion: The study highlights a high prevalence of cesarean deliveries. Households’ monthly incomes, a history of previous cesarean deliveries, and inadequate counseling for pregnant woman were identified as influencing factors for this trend. Based on this research’s findings; it should be enhanced counseling pregnant woman services to optimize cesarean delivery. It is important to create awareness among the pregnant women about the risks and benefits of different delivery methods.
