Manuel Ferreira has Bachelor's degree in Geography from the University of Brasilia (2000), Master degree in Data Processing in Geology and Environmental Analysis from the University of Brasilia (2003), PhD degree in Environmental Science from the Federal University of Goiás (2009), with post-doctoral stage (2009) at the Woods Hole Research Center (Massachusetts).
Currently, he is a professor at the Federal University of Goiás (UFG) in Cartography and Geoprocessing disciplines, linked to the Socio-Environmental Studies Institute (IESA) and associated (since 2003) to the Image Processing and Geoprocessing Laboratory (LAPIG), where he coordinates the PRO-VANT, Research and Training Program with Unmanned Aerial Vehicles.
His research lines involve the monitoring and environmental modeling of natural and anthropic landscapes in the Cerrado and Amazon biomes, through Remote Sensing and Geoprocessing techniques, including the organization and availability of geographic databases.
