This study coins the term Brain Awareness to refer to a operational, composite, hierarchical concept related to self-regulation. It aims to operationalise improvement across six domains of self-regulation through domain-specific mechanisms that restore dysregulation to equilibrium. This was achieved through a systematic conceptual review of self-regulation, which disentangled self-regulation, its theories, models, subcomponents and important recent findings. This led to the creation of a Comprehensive Model of Self-Regulation. This model was then operationalised to conceptualise Brain Awareness. Brain Awareness offers a promising pathway to integrate experiences aimed at developing self-regulation in therapeutic and educational settings. Future research will focus on developing and empirically validating experiences that stimulate the brain anatomy responsible for self-regulation through neuroplasticity and improve deficits in self-regulation.The Article will be available once published.
