Yangyang Zhao is interested in the interactive marine carbon, nitrogen, and oxygen biogeochemistry, with special attention on coastal ocean hypoxia and ocean deoxygenation. His research goals are to understand how climate and anthropogenic nutrient inputs influence ocean oxygen dynamics and how these changes can further impact carbon and nitrogen cycles. Joining the Resplandy Research Group, Yangyang works on unravelling spatio-temporal variability of coastal nitrous oxide production in the northern Indian ocean using observations and regional biophysical ocean modeling.
