Electrical and Computer Engineering
Ziqin Ding was born in Nanjing, Jiangsu, China in 1994. He received a Bachelor of
Engineering degree in aerospace engineering in 2016 from Nanjing University of Astronautics
and Aeronautics. He was admitted to graduate school in the Department of Mechanical and
Aerospace Engineering at the University of Florida in 2016 and received a Master of Science
degree in aerospace engineering in Spring 2018. Since Summer 2018, he started his Ph.D. in the
Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering of the University of Florida, working as a
research assistant advised by Dr. Vladimir Rakov in the Lightning Research Group. He was in
charge of the operation of the International Center for Lightning Research and Testing-Lightning
Observatory in Gainesville (ICLRT-LOG) from 2018 to 2024. He earned his Ph.D. in electrical
and computer engineering from the University of Florida in December 2024. His research focuses
are lightning physics, radio-frequency radiation detection, high-speed photography, atmospheric
high-energy physics, statistical analysis of lightning data, and machine learning. He has authored
and co-authored of more than 23 peer-viewed journal papers. He has also served as Reviewer for
more than 50 peer-reviewed journal papers written by others.
