This study aims to identify and describe the Temonera (TEM), Sulfhydryl variable (SHV), and Cefotaximase (CTX-M) extended-spectrum beta-lactamase (ESBL) genes in Klebsiella pneumoniae linked to community-acquired pneumonia. Fifty sputum specimens were obtained from patients with community-acquired pneumonia and ESBL-producing isolates were identified using a phenotypic confirmation assay. DNA sequencing was conducted for the TEM, SHV, and CTX-M genes, and BLAST was used to assess sequence similarity and homology. Phenotypic confirmation tests indicated that four of the twelve Klebsiella pneumoniae isolates developed ESBL. Three (75%) tested negative for TEM, SHV, and CTX-M genes, while one (25%) tested positive. Multiple sequence alignment showed that the TEM gene closely resembles TEM-1 from several bacterial species, but the CTX-M gene has a quiet mutation at position 510 resulting from the G to T substitution. The Silent mutant CTX-M gene exhibiting ESBL activity may be inferred.
