Evan Kramer is currently the Seismological Laboratory Director’s Postdoctoral Fellow in the Division of Geological and Planetary Sceinces at Caltech and a visiting scholar in the Aeronautics and Astronautics Department at MIT. His research focuses on the development of high-altitude remote sensing drones in the context of improved real-time monitoring of extreme weather events and accurate planning of climate interventions. During his PhD, he was a member of the Space Systems Laboratory in the Aeronautics and Astronautics Department at MIT. His PhD research involved the development of a visibility metric for synthetic aperture radar satellite data that quantifies the predicted utility of observation opportunities. His technical experience extends beyond academic research having completed internships at NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory (3X), NASA’s Johnson Space Center, rocket manufacturer Astra, and Meta Reality Labs. Evan holds a B.S. in aerospace engineering with a minor in physics from the University of Maryland, College Park and a master’s of science in aeronautics and astronautics from MIT. He is passionate about creative storytelling and public outreach as demonstrated by his photojournalism work for MIT Aero Astro and NASA JPL and the public outreach presentations he has hosted as a NASA JPL Solar System Ambassador and at the MIT Museum. Outside of the office, you can find Evan doing astrophotography on rooftops, playing soccer, or out in the great outdoors.
