Artificial Intelligence (AI) has garnered worldwide attention across public, academic, and technological sectors for its potential to revolutionize healthcare by improving cost and quality of care. This review critically examines the promises of AI-driven innovation in Otolaryngology (Ear, Nose, and Throat), a surgical specialty encompassing various subspecialties offering inpatient and outpatient services. The analysis focuses on AI's application in diagnostic support, precision medicine, image analysis, automation, and patient education, while also addressing the ethical and practical considerations. Despite the current high risks associated with AI use in clinical settings, there is significant potential for overcoming these challenges. The National Health Service (NHS) in the UK is adopting AI as part of its 'Long Term Plan' to enhance clinical practice and patient management. However, the adoption of AI in Otolaryngology requires a cautious approach to balance the risks of bias, reliability issues, and the 'black box' phenomenon. Proper education and training in AI for healthcare professionals are essential to ensure a knowledgeable workforce capable of utilizing these emerging technologies effectively.
