• A new framework estimates how sea surface temperatures boosted by climate change influence tropical cyclone intensities • Hurricane intensities during 2019-2023 were 8.3 m s −1 faster, on average, than they would have been in a world without climate change • 84% of hurricanes during 2019-2023 had significantly higher intensities due to attributable local SST warming since 1900

Capsule summary. Extreme temperatures in the UK (July 2022) and India/Pakistan (Spring 2022) are confidently attributed to climate change using an automated system. Similarly attributable extremes occurred frequently worldwide in 2022.
