As the landscape of information systems rapidly evolves, Service Oriented Architecture (SOA) stands out as a potent solution, offering organizations the agility needed to keep pace. By encapsulating application functionality into interoperable services, SOA enables the strategic orchestration of highly adaptive business processes. This shift from traditional web services to SOA is gaining momentum across various sectors. Standardized information technologies facilitate this transition, transforming resources into reusable services and fostering inherently adaptable environments. This research article presents a detailed exploration of SOA and a practical case study from a technology firm based in Pereira, Colombia. This case study highlights both the operational enhancements brought about by SOA and the unexpected positive impacts on employee satisfaction after its implementation. Combining theoretical analysis with a real-world example, this research emphasizes SOA’s potential in reshaping the future of web services. It enriches the existing body of knowledge with empirical evidence and opens up new avenues for future research on the wider impacts of SOA in different organizational settings.
