Principal GIS Scientist
Ms. Olipa Simon, a Tanzanian national highly accomplished professional with a solid academic background and extensive experience in geomatics and natural resources management. She holds a Master of Science degree in Computer Science and a Bachelor of Science in Land Surveying (Geomatics), both earned from the prestigious University of Dar es Salaam in Tanzania. In addition, she is pursuing a Ph.D. in Natural Resources Management, further expanding her knowledge and expertise.
Ms. Simon has continually pursued professional development opportunities to enhance her skills. She has completed specialized training programs in the Principles and Application of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and Remote Sensing in Natural Resource Management held in the Netherlands. Additionally, she has received training in Free and Open Source software for Land Evaluation and Land Use Planning during her time in Belgium.
For the past 19 years, Ms. Simon has held the Principal GIS Laboratory Scientist position at the Institute of Resource Assessment of the University of Dar es Salaam. In this role, she carries out a range of responsibilities; conducts theoretical and practical training for postgraduate students at the university, focusing on the principles and applications of GIS and Remote Sensing for various purposes. She also designs customized short courses in GIS and Remote Sensing and offers consultancy services
