Policy Vehicles for Motivating Energy Management in U.S. Drinking Water Supply
- Robert B. Sowby
Abstract
The energy-intensive nature of drinking water supply poses significant challenges for sustainability. This paper surveys policy interventions aimed at reducing energy consumption in drinking water systems, focusing on federal initiatives such as the Safe Drinking Water Act (SDWA) and America's Water Infrastructure Act (AWIA), as well as relevant energy and sustainability policies. By leveraging existing legislation, policymakers and utility managers can advance energy efficiency and integrate renewable energy solutions into urban water systems.
