December 30, 2024
Close proximity between the maxillary teeth roots and the maxillary sinus can lead to an unintentional deposition of endodontic obturation materials into the latter. Among these materials the injectable thermoplasticized gutta-percha as a consequence of overfilling. This "clinical image" presents the case of an extensive gutta-percha extruded into the maxillary sinus during root canal treatment on the 2nd upper left molar.

August 30, 2022
Pyogenic granuloma (PG) is an inflammatory hyperplasia that arises in response to various stimuli such as low-grade local irritation, traumatic injury, or hormonal factors. It may occur at any age, with the highest incidence in the 2nd and 5th decades of life. Women are more frequently affected due to the increased levels of circulating hormones, oestrogen and progesterone. The most common site for oral PG is the gingiva. In this report, a case of PG of the gingiva with severe bone loss is presented.

August 23, 2022
Introduction: In order to keep their dentures clean and properly stored, patients generally soak them in water at night. Candida albicans is a commensal yeast fungus that colonizes dentures, and in some conditions, it becomes an opportunistic pathogen and causes fungal infections known as candidiasis. Objective: This pilot study aimed to evaluate the effect of distilled water on Candida albicans colonizing dentures. Materials and methods: Twenty patients (9 men, 11 women; age range 40-75 years) with complete maxillary dentures infected by Candida albicans were included in this study. The dentures of these patients were soaked in distilled water for 4 days (8 hours at night). Swab samples from the dentures were collected before and after distilled water use and examined mycologically. Results: The Candida albicans colony counts increased after soaking the dentures in distilled water for 8 hours for 4 days. Conclusion: Patients should be dissuaded from soaking their dentures overnight in distilled water as the result is a significant increase in fungal colonization.

August 18, 2022
The pterygopalatine fossa, located on both sides of the skull, is a neurovascular crossroad between the middle cranial fossa, the orbit, the nasopharynx, the nasal and oral cavities, and the infratemporal fossa. It is considered a strategically complex region given its small size and the numerous structures that pass through it. This review aims to describe its skeletal framework, content, and communications with other regions.

July 14, 2022
Dentigerous cysts (DCs) are developmental odontogenic cysts associated with impacted teeth. DCs are generally asymptomatic and the majority of the cases are fortuitously detected on conventional imaging techniques used in dental practice such as panoramic radiographs. This "clinical image" presents a large DC associated with an impacted mandibular canine.
