Veillonella species rarely cause serious infections, but the incidence of infection has been increasing among immunocompromised individuals. This case of an epidural abscess and spondylitis caused by Veillonella parvula in a hemodialysis patient illustrates the importance of performing anaerobic blood culture in immunocompromised patients with signs of infection.

A 42-year-old woman presented with myalgia, which ameliorated a week after treatment. She was diagnosed with Basedow's disease. The presence of concomitant autoimmune diseases are important considerations for patients with Basedow's disease presenting with myalgia. Thyrotoxicosis should be included as a rare differential diagnosis for myalgia.
Kushiyaki-related Streptococcus suis meningitis with ventriculitis: A case report

This report describes Streptococcus suis meningitis with ventriculitis in a 66-year-old kushiyaki chef, which presented with fever and meningeal irritation signs. Cerebrospinal fluid testing revealed increased cell counts and protein levels, and presence of gram-positive cocci. Kushiyaki chefs are at high risk of this infection and prophylaxis should be considered.
