My research focuses primarily on understanding how brain circuits carry out their functions, particularly the fundamental logic and organization of the central pattern generators (CPGs) in the mammalian central nervous system. My current project aims to reconstruct a complete wiring diagram of the respiratory pacemaker circuit at the level of individual synapses in rodents. A functional connectomics approach will be applied to provide new insights and detailed information needed to develop a robust constrained model for interpreting the mechanisms underlying the neural control of breathing.
